Well its already October, and that means the second round of the O’neill Cold Water Classic Canada. This is the second year that we’ll be hosting the “coldest surf competition on the plant” -(not really, but its pretty cold).
With the cutoff from the WCT, definitely looking forward to seeing some of the ex-WCT’ers showing up. I plan to head up for the beginning of the comp to see if I can meet some of my favorite surfers. The competition takes place in Tofino, which is about half way up Vancouver Island. The unfortunate thing for these surfers is that Tofino is basically all beach break, and the main spot is a very flat wave. All the best waves are in the south of the island, where we have a lot of rocky points and slabs to pull in to.
This will be the first year that you can watch it live! – link is at the bottom.

The cool thing with Tofino is that there is pretty much always swell, and its such a small town that you can’t not run into people up there, last year got to have Corey Lopez and John John Florence as my neighbors. Got to surf with Alex Grey and Killian Garland, definitely a good time.
To the Pros – bring your 5/4/3′s or a brand new 4/3 will do, with some 3mm booties. also use a board with a bit more volume as the waves can get pretty flat on the face.
My list of surfers to check out:
